my relatively new midnight blue male guppies and my fav original blue female which made me go looking for blue males
-
all the endler hybrids of size went to the local pet shop this morning as i'm going to concentrate on the moscows , in 2 weeks when i'm home again i'll have another cull as i've literally got 1000 babies swimming around and need to keep numbers low for specific matings otherwise i'll just end up with bitzers mating as they please with no control
-
in the background a juvenile blue moscow still to color up properly , closest to the camera is my wifes fav half gold first cross endler (endler hybrid?)
-
Thanks I'm currently working away and will get some new photo's up of the fry when I get home , my daughters impressed with the endler crosses I've asked my wife for photos but still waiting going to have to wait till Wednesday when I get home and see for my self

thanks les i have a digital copy of phil shaddock guppy color strains but neither of the above . can you buy them online ? my current project is purple also a green moscow haven't read and can't get my head around how to get white although i have a tequila sunrise female which has a bit of a white to her tail but also red and yellow outside of it
-
sorry les ,i've been on night shift so haven't been on for a few days , yeah that's me in bunbury no drama's if they need to come from indo . i'm really only chasing albino full platinum ( white ) . i was going to get a few more tanks up and running(for more different strains) but i'm starting a new job tuesday FIFO , to make it easier on my mrs i've had to change plans on turning the house into a sea of tanks so will leave it to my existing project but would also love to get the above if your able to cheers

can sex be changed/determined by temperature ? bit like most egg laying families???
-
the endler from the top photo has disappeared i had him with the fry separated from the others and he's gone , lid on but with gaps maybe he's tried to jump and come out and the dog has had a white bait snack? not swimming not floating not down the bottom of the tank just M.I.A ??????????
-
i think it's the female that lacks any color they look a lot like Gambusia/Mosquito fish .
-
male can only pass on the moscow gene and then add more red color cells for purple and add yellow color cells for green but doesn't say whether it's something you have to tweek for a few generations or if it's gen1 ??? trial and error i let you know in a few months
-
hmmm not sure if it would work but just a thought. home brewers use a heat blanket for the yeast cultivation, would a heat blanket under or around the tank work or help ?????
-
water flow ? the heater will switch off once the temp around it reaches 25 were as the rest of the tank may be only 21-22 ? heater size i think roughly for each watt will heat 1 litre of water so if your using a 55w heater in a 120 litre tank then it would pay to get another one?
-
original plan was to put the female straight in with my blue moscow males to try and get a few purple moscows but changed my mind and will get a drop from the pure strain first then put her in with the blue moscows . i'll keep you updated on how it goes not sure if i'll get any purples 1st generation it may take a few generations ? the yellow female above i'm hoping to get some green variance to the blue as she has alot of body color for a female , here's hoping

i ended up with an endler through symphony , only since my new tank has been up and running have i been able to isolate him , the coloring i can already see in he's offspring at 3-4 weeks i'm second guessing isolating him , think i may be letting him loose again from what i'm seeing in he's offspring but it's only early days and the colors aren't all that clear being only 3-4 weeks old sorry not sure on class but is a black bar and has blue in the dorsal which i'm led to believe is closer to the wild type?

had some old 10mm glass in the shed from a few years ago when i was a glazier , decided on the weekend gone that i'ld use it to make a new tank as i've already done the main structure i'll show a quick run down on how i was taught as an apprentice obviously draw your design , then cut the glass / get it cut allowing for silicone joints ( that depends on size generally between 2-5mm ) and deducting the width of the glass for the ends so the front runs through and the ends but up to the front ( maybe confusing pitures below will show then i drew out the tank some timber and screwed down blocks of timber to hold the sides up right by this stage the glass would be taped with about 3mm in on the is ide for a better seal and on the out side almost flush (1mm) i haven't as just doing a quick demo as i'ld already finished mine the blocks underneath just lift it off the bottom so you can access it when siliconing rather then having to cut off big blobs later down the track then i just use old roofing lead and cut and shape it to hold the top solid and level the below photo shows how one piece of glass will run past with the other butting up to it and about a 3mm gap for the silicone joint then next you would pump the silicone into the joint , a clean cut nozzle at the right angle and size is the key as well as not being to shy by making sure it comes out the other side as well . running up or down at a slow smooth speed you can always wipe more off but if you don't use enough you'll get air bubbles and higher leakage chances using a spatula like this on the side you used the silicone gun use the above or something square and that won't scratch the glass or ripe the tape off and hold it quite flat (vertical) at this stage you want to push as much as possible out the other side you don't want to be wiping the excess off just yet you want to be pushing it through to get rid of air bubbles now on the other side you can hold it more horizontal to remove excess then you do the same on the first side then once more on the other side now you can peel off the tape and let dry for atleast 24hrs unscrew the timber blocks , remove the lead then i used the timber blocks under the base and under the newly siliconed sides to lift it off the floor so you can access the base to do the same as what was done on the sides with the base (caution the sides will be quiet flimsy until the base is in place ) and you should end up with something that resembles this i'm yet to put removable dividers and waiting till wednesday pay day to buy the lights i want before i can get the measurements for the light supports that will need siliconing in place which will determine where and how the dividers go otherwise if the light support goes over the divider with the system i'm looking at doing which is slide up and down i wont be able to remove them so i just got to wait for the light first CAUTION GLASS IS SHARP AND CAN CUT, BREAK extreme caution should be taken when handling SILICONE :most kitchen/ bathroom silicones contain anti-fungus which can kill fish most bathroom silicones are neutral cure which means it doesn't seal glass to glass as strong a good quality acetic cure silicone with the recommended cure time with a few wash outs before use is highly recommended as clear as mud ? i've got enough glass to make another the same size so i'll take proper photo's of a step by step when i do that one

she's up and running still need to make a few more dividers but lost patience with them so will get back to it at a latter date , cost blown right out now with 2x heaters ,T8 twin lighting , and a eheim filter proberly would of been cheaper buying a second hand tank and set up
