Excellent news - but don't stop treatment for at least 3 days after all the spots have disappeared.
  2. I just need to find other's who are interested in long term CTPK breeding so we can trade when it comes to needing new blood Volunteers welcome...
  3. Imagine trying to squeeze a triple band onto a CTPK finnage.... But yes, you're right - it's all about the genetics. I'm hoping to put this guy into a spawn tank around January - fingers crossed

I've tried to get Grindals going twice now - they don't like me at all

Ah - there's my issue - I'm unlucky if I suck up a handful - too timid is me
  6. Keep posting vids like that and I'll keep agreeing

Try insulating the tank - place towels around and over it, maybe some polystyrene - that sort of thing to help it better retain the heat.
  8. Unfortunately, these are the types of Vf I'm producing at the moment: As you can see - a white band that fades to cello - and as this guy has gotten older, the black layer is becoming more prominent and taking over the white layer and bleeding into the cello - I'll see if I can chase up a more up-to-date photo. But I've got a problem. So I get a butterfly PK with the white outer banding, maybe even with a black body...I then have to turn it into a CTPK line using what...one of my black orchids - which will screw up not only the butterfly effect (watch out for Tsunamis), but also my webbing reduction, or I find an Asian breeder already doing black bodied, white ray, CTPK - in which case I'd just by a pair - which kind of defeats the purpose. Or maybe I get long fin stock and reverse engineer to create CTPK... This might have to go on the back burner with all the other projects I've currently not got room for....
  9. Ha! Did I hear someone calling my name...a few times.... Anytime you'd like to have a chat, let me know

So you're only feeding once a day, or only feeding BBS once a day? I'm guessing MW for other meals....

Returned 66 fry - so you take all your fry out for each water change?

    Good article. Cook the bastards
  13. That's the plan, Raz. I want to use a line of DTCTPK to provide the increased branching, the broader dorsals, and to remove red wash and the black layer, while still helping to reduce webbing in my light bodied lines. I'll also cross these over to the darker body lines once I create a strain of DTCTPK without the cc influence. I believe this split should occur at the F1 stage, so once this spawn has matured, I'll take a pair and cross them to my recessive line (So F1 DTHMPK x F2 nr1/cc/Op CTPK). I'll also be using one (haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning towards using the female of this spawn) to cross into one of my green lines to create a darker bodied line of DTCTPK's (P0 DTHMPK x F2 BlBl CTPK). In about a year, I imagine I'll start bringing my green lines together, which means in about two years I'll be looking outside my Fishroom for new blood I'm nothing if not a long term planner
  14. Yeah - sorry about that - they took forever to get to a decent size, and finding a pair I was willing to go to F2 with was a little difficult. I only had two males to choose from - this red fella and a fully navy blue/black gent. Both were of similar form but I figured that both were carriers of nr1 so using the red would remove the irid from the line on the male side, and the red would be cancelled out by both male and female carrying the nr1 gene. The females were a little more difficult - I have around half a dozen to choose from, but most were similar to this girl. All the others had a little more red in them though so I went with the best form and the cleanest looking. So I ended up with around 10 survive the rocky beginning to reach adulthood - four (2xmale and 2xfemales) were kept, and everything else was culled. Now I have a massive spawn to work with, if enough decent specimens survive with the traits I'm after, then these four from F1 will join their siblings in fishy heaven. Chances are the blue male and the unused female will go anyway.
  15. Imported for me from Indo - Dikma...I think.
  16. P0 - CTPK #4 Male Female Goals Reduced webbing True CTPK Return Yellow Return Cambodians (or yellow Cambodians...) Work on Opaque coverage Possibilities Dragon scaling Butterfly Marble Piebald Panda Female anal isn't great but should be balanced by male. 24th August – Pair isolated – female in barracks, male placed in spawn tank. No plant. Just heater, sponge filter, half cup. I began feeding them frozen blood worm - three times a day. Normally they only get a few pellets of an evening. Male built huge nest. 28th - Female went into separate vessel. First introduction sighting. 29th – Female into tube inside spawn tank. Blood worm feedings continued. 30th – Female released. Chasing ensued. Female left untubed overnight. 31st – Wrapping J Female removed after a couple of hours – male tending nest well. 2nd Sept – Tails...and lots of them – 400-500! 3rd - Male removed. He was a little frantic and looked exhausted at trying to chase fry everywhere. 4th - They cover the top of the water surface and can be seen in most other areas of the water column throughout the tank. Easily the biggest spawn I've ever had. I've now decided against doing any more spawns for the immediate future - think I'll have enough to do with the two spawns I do have...
  17. Male Female Goals A spawn of DTHMPK to give me a pair to work a line of DTCTPK's from They also seem fairly rare around the place in Oz, so I figure I could finally sell some 24th August – Pair isolated – female in barracks, male placed in spawn tank. No plant. Just heater, sponge filter, half cup. I began feeding them frozen blood worm - three times a day. Normally they only get a few pellets of an evening. Male built small nest. 28th - Female went into separate vessel. First introduction sighting. 29th – Female into tube inside spawn tank. Blood worm feedings continued. 30th – Female released. Chasing ensued. Female left untubed overnight. 31st – Wrapping J Female removed after a couple of hours – male tending nest well. 2nd Sept – Tails...and lots of them – 150-200! 3rd Sept - male removed once evidence of free swimmers seen. Was a little hesitant on removing him as there seemed to be 50+ fry on the bottom of the tank, but he was looking a little agitated with me (and the wife, who has already claimed all of them as hers) kept looking in the tank. VE commenced 4th Sept - much less fry seen on the bottom of the tank this morning. Estimate of fry number changed to at least 200...
  18. Hey Paul - happy birthday for the other day I get that a bi-colour butterfly is the way to go to create this fella, but I'm having issues getting my head around being able to keep the white in the rays. All the butterflies I get from marbles tend to be cello with dark bodies, white with lighter bodies...I was hoping there was some way to work the opaque into the rays to get the white...but I guess not So I should be looking for more of a black copper as my base?
  19. Peaches - where do you get Metro from in Oz - would save me importing it from the USA... And which medications that are rare, but widely available, are you referring to - and to treat which diseases? Cheers BT
  20. Ok - so 'white' is really steel with an Opaque covering making the phenotype look white, and includes Cambo for no black, nr for no red, and Si for coverage. Cool. How does one get a black bodied CT with white rays? And not use Dragon scaling? Like the fella seen here
  21. My imported 'white' DTHMPK's spawned over the weekend and tails were spied this morning Let me know if you want to be ear-marked for a pair to refresh your stock

Not the hobby that's whipping me...it's still the job. Project was supposed to finish at the end of June - got pushed back to end of July, and is now pushed back indefinitely because some people seem to be able to get away with not doing their job! I shall stop this rant now before I get
