  1. They are both males if colored females in dwarf gouramis are silver. Sometimes they are only sold in pairs or used to be, so the shop was not left with all the females. Ray
  2. Defiency will not always show up on all plants. It will depend on the plant and abillity for them to take up the ferts and also the plants requirements. The dino products are good Ray
  3. Deficiency It takes a fair bit to overdose seachem products from my experience seachem make a whole range of ferts and if you check out there site it gives a schedule for dosing there pruducts for optimum growth and care and they make a lot of ferts this may also be of some help http://www.aquatic-eden.com/2009/06/common-aquatic-plant-deficiency-diagram.html Ray
  4. I think running that amount of tanks at 600 dollars is not bad,I have 2 tanks plus other luxuries and just running under 1k a quarter in melbourne I have seen so many people over the years do the sane type of thing and unless its done right it doesnt save all that much and then work out the cost of doing the job? For melbourne you really need to run a gas heater to save money. some people still need to run heater due to to heat variations from top to bottom level tanks if things are not right you also need to run some sort of a fan to circulate the heat to try and keep temps more even, high humdity problems. If you can do it right go for it, but do a lot of reading up first Ray
  5. I would try getting a few plants in first water lillies for starters as they are just starting to come up here in melbourne. They can be a little expensive to buy so if you know someone who has some to split, take advantage of it. Any other pond plants will also help and there is a variety that can be found at nurserys, but keep a watch on them as some can take over very quick Are you runnining filtration on the pond? I am guuesing your concern is the chemicals from the fiberglass? from my understanding once the fiberglass is cured it should be fine but start of slow as mentioned treat it the same as starting a new tank add the fish in small amounts and increase over a period of time. we are coming into summer soon and depending on the location of your pond you need to remember you maybe fighting things like low oxygen levels due to heat, green water and just the whole new setup syndrome. Just take your time dont rush it Ray
  6. Apologies as I assumed you had heavy root feaders and these where for pond use mot for normal garden use and I should know better as to ask what plants and your setup. I still beleive they could be used in a tank but the dosage would be so so so much less. Well done to fishbites or his promt and correct advice. Osmocote will have the same problems with ammonia if dosed at high levels I beleive, and I need to remeber I have high plant and light levels and assume everyone else does Hope it works out well Ray
  7. If in doubt put them in a small plastic containor as many rocks as possible least amount of water but cover them and do a ph and hardness test after a week and see how it goes? small changes I would say would be fine. I agree with the others, safe Also note that if the wood is also collected from a beach it may contain high levels of salt? Ray
  8. My guess subwassertang Les you appear to have your java planted in the substrate you need to make sure the rhizones are above the gravell or it will die, better with it atached to a piece of wood or a rock Ray
  9. Nice Idea with wrapping them in the paper, a lot easier than freezing them Ray
  10. Personally I would use them If anything I would break them up a little and place a couple of small bits around the roots of your plants, use only with swords, crypts and lotus things that are heavy root feeders dont place under the roots of stem plants I have used manutec fern spikes, manutec pond?, osmocote native(about 8 pieces frozen in an ice cube trays) and dino dung (blood and bone mixed with clay) There should not be anything in them that can harm fish as long as you dont go overboard and use a little common sense As for pond use rember there are small ponds as well as big ponds Ray
  11. Hair salon? I wonder how sensitive shrimp will go with all the fumes from chemicals? I know when I have walked into one to pick up the Mrs I find the smell very over powering at times. Sorry you lost your little white shrimp Ray
  12. As mentioned by everone you have common pond snails? as for the little egg bits are you using purigen or anything in your filter that may have leaked into your tank Also your plants need fertiliser IMO, if thats an anubius leave it should look a nice dark green Pond snails have a gel type egg Malayasian trumpet snail are live bearers and you generally dont see the small ones if you have a substrate. mystery snails lay a small honeycomb glob above the water line ramshorn snails I have no idea and hopefully someone can help me on that? No idea what a zebra snail is and again any help would be apreciated, but will google it I know of a dicussion about blonde snail? a pond snail to me and I think native to top end of oz? My guess not snail eggs and it looks to small for verimiculite that I have seen? Ray
  13. This may be of a little help also http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/plantfinder/all.php Ray
  14. They are from ebay so driver and led 50 dollars and 8 dollars for the heatsink, But you need to rember I had the rest already so a few dollars extra for some small nuts and bolts and heat past. Yan depending on your setup and what you want to achieve they are deffintly worth trying from my first inpression. I am still very hesitant when it comes to led lighting but on lighting it up over the tank I am very interested in upgrading the rest but want to see how this one goes first Ray
