  1. thanks les! ive found sphagnum peat for carnivorous plants and the seller has confirmed it has no additives and she has sold it to others for aquarium usage. heres the link: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140688758348&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123 is this the correct bog peat youre talking about? i went to their website and they are selling "Canadian TE-EM sphagnum peat moss." anyone knows what TE-EM means?
  2. Like this eh: http://www.marksfish.me.uk/index.php/Tips/Peat-Filtering.html What is your ph after you soaked the peat bag?? Can I use peat from garden shops or only Canadian sphagnum peat?
  3. How do you use peat moss?? Just soak them in the tank? I just added another 6leaves.... Haha I will use as many leaves it akes to get the tan!
  4. this is how the tank looks with 12leaves in 80L for 6 days. i wish it was 1.5X darker.. unable to measure the pH yet (pH meter ran out of batteries). but ideally i want it at pH5.0. Should i keep adding leaves or should i use other methods. i heard sphagnum moss can be used too. but how?? note: this is a bare bottom tank and i do not intend to use any substrates.
  5. You have a dosing app??? Lol im prepping a tank for macs, I hope they like their leaf litter.
  6. I did not keep it airtight. But they look better after I placed them back into water. I'm using 8 small leaves for 90L of water to get the tanned colour. Is that too much?
  7. Hello, had a pack of Indian almond leaves that was unused for bt a year. The leaves have lost their brown color somehow. Does it mean it has lost its pH lowering properties?? Thx.
  8. hey someone, just wanted to express that you have my support as well. As said by hundreds before and will be said by hundreds after me, i have enjoyed every transaction with you and all the wild bettas and fishes i've received were top notch. hang in there!
  9. oo i meant hard to handle when left to float around freely. its really tough to remove especially when you're hunting down fry and they get caught it. do the MTsnails propagate in acidic water?? i had those in my pleco tank and they all died out.....
  10. The tank is only 10L. yeap it is for a pair. Rubras can be quite aggressive to their partners. but as long as they are hiding places it should be fine. i am hoping for a peaceful pair. Rubras are not like splendens. they are mouthbrooders. so their eggs are incubated in the mouths of the fathers. i will remove the female once they have bred so as to not stress out the male. i read some where that rubras are in an evolutionary transition. they used to be bubble nesters but perhaps the heavy deforestation and the lack of still water spawning sites have led them to become mouthbrooders. some have even reported the females aiding in mouthbrooding! riccia is really hard to handle, isn't it? does it require higher lighting? the oak leaves do not stain the water as much as IAL. it does not affect the pH much either. only a slight tan. apparantly it takes longer for oask leaves to break down.
  11. the light is directly above the floating plants. so i guess its not too bad. there are some that float to darker areas though. it was browning when introduced 4days ago but it seems to be getting greener. but i think its the lack of nutrients in the water thats causing it, not the lighting. thanks, i hope my betta finds it pretty too =) pretty enough to not squabble...
  12. Hello hello! just to share the home i have set up for a pair of betta rubra i bid on aquabid. 35cmx18cmx22cm ~2.5gal/10L driftwoods, twigs, fallen oak leaves ada bright sand pH:7.0 temp:24.0degC filtration: bubble sponge lighting: 3Watt LED lamp from Target plants: Wisteria, some duckweed livestock: otocinclus x 1 now all it needs is The Fish. =) wonders if it has reached brisbane. thanks for reading!
  13. mine are large! abt 12cm the smallest female. the tank though, i feel is not big enough for them... its a 50cmx45cm base area tank. so lucky that you can have a 6foot!!!
  14. that is ADA bright sand =) although i found cheaper alternatives in other fish shops. but only after ive bought it. i keep it thin.. so that no anaerobic bacteria can build up.
  15. hello guys! after my exams (and neglect to my fishes), i resolved to take proper care of them. so it was either to sell or to breed. since the first didn't went too well, i decided to rescape the tank to make it more pleco friendly. so this will be my true attempt to get my fishes feeling sexayyy~~ all comments welcomed! =) thanks for reading.
